MEASURING CUP & SPOON SETS

Whether you're using them for baking or every day meals, you need a set of measuring utensils. The best measuring cups and spoons ensure accuracy in both baking and cooking.

To begin : Are you measuring for wet or for dry ingredients? For the most accurate results you will want to use the right utensils.  With dry measuring cups, you measure in weight, with things like flour, sugar, baking powder, and spices. With liquid you are measuring volume.

If you're shopping for a set of dry cups, make sure it has at least the most commonly used measurements: 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup for cups; and 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 tablespoon, and 1 tablespoon for spoons. Whether you're looking for liquid or dry cups, make sure the measurements are easily legible. If you have limited kitchen space, you might consider stackable cups & spoons. Many of them are designed to be space savers. If you often use measuring cups to melt butter or chocolate, silicone or other heat-resistant materials are a great option!

FOR WET INGREDIENTS

BEST OVERALL

OXO Good Grips 3-Piece Angled Measuring Cup Set

These cups allow you to see the measurement from above. No more stooping over to see the level from the side. Its an awesome feature! No-slip grips on the handles, efficient spouts that don’t dribble, and three cups with 1 cup, 2 cups and 4 cups (with markings in ounces, cups and milliliters) makes this set ultra convenient and easy to use. The BPA-free plastic cups are simple to hand-wash, or you can toss them into the dishwasher.

BEST GLASS

Anchor Hocking 2-Cup Measuring Cup

If you prefer a classic glass measuring cup over any of the newer materials, this is your cup. This no-nonsense cup has a comfortable, easy-to-grip handle, markings in ounces, quarts, milliliters and cups, and it’s safe for use in the microwave, oven and freezer. One thing - Measurements start at 1/2 cup, so you would need another, smaller cup or to break out a tablespoon measure for 1/4 cup measuring, which isn’t the most convenient. And though the spout works well when pouring, it dribbles if you try to pour too thin a stream or if you don’t retract the cup quickly enough. That aside, this is a solid glass cup that you can use with confidence and then toss in the dishwasher to clean.

BEST FLEXIBLE

OXO 3-Piece Squeeze & Pour Silicone Measuring Cup Set

These flexible silicone beakers are definitely not traditional. The design looks cool, and also saves space in storage (the three cups — 1/2 cup, 1 cup and 2 cups — don’t have handles and they nest to minimize their footprint). You can pinch the top together to create a narrower or wider spout, depending on what you’re pouring. They pour very cleanly; retract the cup and there isn’t a dribble in sight. The honeycomb pattern on the outside protects hands from warmer liquids — but the pattern is left off the area where the markings are, so you can read it easily. Feel free to use this set in the microwave, then toss it in the dishwasher when you’re done.
